“Dofollow” in Movable Type: A Cry For Help

Ian Lurie Jul 3 2008

help!I’m trying to set my blog’s comments to ‘dofollow’. I’ve followed Andy Beard’s advice, turned off nofollow.pl, etc. etc..
Yet links back to authors within comments still show as ‘nofollow’. I’ve flushed the cache, rebuilt templates and
I’m using Movable Type 4. Their documentation is slightly worse than useless.
So I’m throwing myself upon the mercy of my readers: Has anyone managed to ‘dofollow’ their comment author links in Movable Type 4? If so, can you let me know what you did?

  1. The documentation is getting better, really! Here’s the page you’re looking for:
    Comment Settings
If you’re on MT 4, you can disable the ‘nofollow’ link relation assignment from the comment setting screen. Just uncheck the “Apply ‘nofollow’ to URLs” setting and then do a rebuild of your entry archives.
Removing the legacy ‘nofollow.pl’ plugin won’t do it– MT 4 disables that plugin anyway, since the feature was folded into the core product with the 4.0 release.

Thank you!!!! I stand by my documentation complaint though. As it turns out, the option you told me about ONLY appears if you check the ‘Allow HTML in comments’ option.
I’m not sure why unchecking that hides the nofollow checkbox. But once I did that I got it to work.
Thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction.
